Whetting your appetite...

Hello there!! Congratulations on being among the very first to witness the birth of
Travelblogue!!; An account of boondocking and RV Traveling as done my myself,
and my husband, Michael.

What is Boondocking, you ask?

Well...

Boondocking is the ability to park your RV (be it a motorhome, travel trailer, fifth
wheel, or even a customized van or converted bus) anywhere, be it in the middle of the
forest, the desert, a city street, or your favorite Walmart parking lot, and exist on
nothing but the batter power and water and other substanance supplied by your RV. In other
words, your water tanks, your batteries, your solar powered panels (should you have them),
your generator (should you have one, UGH!) and your car (or more likely, your pickup
truck) are all you have, or need, to get by.

In about 6 or so weeks, Mike and I will be busting out of San Diego and doing the
boondocking/RV Traveling gig for what we hope will be a good 6 to 8 months.  Our
ulitmate destination will be Las Vegas (or Reno, depending on which has a better economic
environment for what we want to do regarding our day jobs).

In order to whet your appetite, here's an initial sampling of our LAST boondocking/RV
Traveling Trip:  It lasted about 2 months, from November 15, 2001 to January 15, 2002
and took us from our original home in the San Francisco Bay Area, back up to Sacramento,
down through Monterey (where we lived and worked for a few months prior to starting that
trip), to Big Sur, San Luis Obispo, Morro Bay, Santa Barbara, Ventura, Los Angeles,
Banning, Palm Springs, Slab City, and ultimately, San Diego, where we have been living,
working and saving up money for the past year and a half.

First, let's introduce the old homestead. This RV has been our home (and our home away
from home) since August, 2001, when we gave up city life in San Francisco, and moved into
a quaint little RV park in the wilds of Aromas, which is where we started our first RV
excursion, several months later.

This picture was taken on November 19, 2001, at Lake Chabot Park, Castro Valley, CA.

And here are some more pics for your viewing pleasure:

We've learned a lot about ourselves, and the nature of our rig, both during our last
trip and our time spent here in SD (tho' the self part is a little too detailed to go into
here)  so upon pull out of San Diego, we will have installed a 120 Solar panel,
another water tank (a 19 gallon one), and we'll have gone through and gotten rid of stuff
"accumlated" during our time here (*sigh*).  Plus the tweaking of tires,
allignment of the truck, and other things...

For those of you reading who are sniffing our nose at us for willfully being
"homeless" (electricity and a roof over your head is NOT being homeless,
bunkie!), or for skirting around paying RV park and National park fees, don't worry.
We'll be hitting those from time to time (probably more of them, once we leave
California; the average price of a stay in an RV perk here, in high season, is about 40 to
50 bucks a night; even some Motel 6's are cheaper!  But the national park pass is a
pretty good bargain).

Anyway, I'll be uploading more pics of our previous adventure (plus a few we took while
living here in SD) before we go. Be sure to check back and check it out!

Toodles!
